About
Maketronics is a small consulting firm specialized in Electronics design and development. Focused on User Experience and making things that “just works”, we’ve been around since 2007. We’re located in the Bitraf Makerspace & Hackerspace, near the center of Oslo, Norway where we have advanced tools for prototyping, debugging and small batch production.

Maketronics is primarily staffed by Jens Chr Brynildsen (blog), but we grow as required through our extensive network – allowing us to deliver small to medium sized projects. On rare occasions we’ll also join as a consultant on larger projects, but we prefer to work on many small than just one large project. Below you can find references to some of the projects we’ve worked on.
Maketronics has developed the electronics in the Roest S100 Sample Roaster as well as the P3000 Production Roaster. We also built the initial backend and client portal, but this has since been replaced to support further growth. Roest Coffee was recently named 2023 Gaselle – a startup that doubles their growth year over year for 4 years.
The last few years, we’ve helped bring sound back to the classic read phonebooths across Norway. The 120+ kiosks are operated by Foreningen Les as tiny libraries, but the old phones never had a function. We’ve developed new electronics that slot into the old devices. Just lift the original handle to listen to audio books or use the original keypad to select more content.
Throughout the years, we have created many unique interactive installations for museeums across Norway such as Rock City, Energisenteret (EIS), Oljemuseet in Stavanger, Teknisk Museeum, Klimahuset Oslo, Kistefos Museeum and many more. Many of these have been as a subcontractor for our friends at back.no.
We’ve also done a host of specialized one-off solutions for marketing purposes for familiar brands like Elkjøp, Dent Crush, MyCall, Nespresso, Finn.no, and even a space game for NASA back in the days.
One of the most fun projects we’ve worked on is the internet connected beer tapping system by OrderX. Using any device, you can remote control the tapping systems from BottomsUp. Maketronics developed firmware for the taps, the IoT device that connected them to AWS as well as custom hardware for NFC payment. OrderX also handles all payment & orders for 50+ restaurants, bars & café’s, saving them millions per year by offering a digital workflow.
From 2013 to 2023, Maketronics created and lectured 3 bachelor courses for Kristiania University. The topics covered electronics, robotics, microcontrollers, sensors and internet connected devices (IoT / IIot / M2M). From 2024 on, we’re instead devoting time to develop our own products. What we provide
We develop electronics from scratch, based on customer requirements. We can aid in selecting technical solutions and offer advice on how to achieve the complete product – not just the electronics. We’ll guide you tough the prototype phase by creating the first prototypes to validate the feasability of the product. If speed is of essence, we’ll produce the prototypes locally within just days. If you have more time, we have partners optimized for either speed, quality or price (select any two). We’ll help you all the way from the prototype to an industrialized product.
In many cases, we’ll just do the hardware. More often we’ll also provide a basic firmware to get your employees started quickly. If you don’t have employees handling this kind of development, we can also join in as part of your team for a limited time.
For an IoT product we can sometimes provide the entire workflow: firmware, OTA updates, communication framework (MQTT, AMQP) and backend (Node, React).
Most of our clients are recurring. They’ll come back for new hardware versions or long term support. We’ll aid you with rebuilds when a chip is discontinued or new features are needed.
